Letter from T.E. Rickenbacker, a member of Co. B, Hagood's Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers, to J.D. Kellery, Esq., in reference to the heavy losses sustained by Confederate troops in Virginia at Spotsylvania and the Battle of the Wilderness which included the wounding of Gen. James E. Longstreet by his own troops, on 6 May 1864, "We have for the last ten or twelve days been engaged in fighting the enemy on the Virginia Soil. Our duty has been extremely hard for the time mentioned. It is laborious all the time but... much more so during the present fight."
